Newspaper Lead

Gonzalez gives De Aza the starting job at center field

BY CLARK SPENCER

JUPITER - Alejando De Aza was such a bully as a child he stopped playing sandlot baseball to appease hia mother. He would beat up the other boys, oe throw rocks at them, and their parents would come knocking on the De Aza door demanding apologies. "I used to be such a bad boy," De Aza said.

This lead was an anectdotial lead because it focused on De Aza. However, it wasn't just your typical sports story. The lead could catch a non sports fan's attention because it was interesting, not just sports stats or anything like that.

Absence of Malice

Absence of Maline was interesting because it allowed us, the students, to have some type of feeling on what being a journalist is all about. Sally Fields' character did some things that we have been told not to do by Professor Wakhisi. For instance, she wore a wire t try to get Gallagher to say something that would help prove that he is the bad guy that the newspaper seemed to think he was. I also found it funny just how different journalism was then compared to now. There was no internet, cell phones, etc. It was more of a complete process, now it is much different than it was back in 1981.
